Rhea's Version     Jonah's version

How We Met
Jonah and I met through a mutual friend who worked at the Saint Francis, West emergency department. My friend, Estrella, invited me to go out to dinner with a bunch of folks who worked in the ER. It was Estrella who introduced me to Jonah one night outside of Palamino's restaurant. At that time, I was working up in the telemetry unit; unaware that Jonah was this guy who worked in the ER. I remembered him because he gave me a patient report over the phone before he brought his patient upstairs to the telemetry unit. His voice was handsome and his English was grammatically correct, so I assumed he wasn't from Hawaii. To be honest, I expected to see a white dude to come rolling in with my patient. Instead, I saw this cute, brown, little surfer boy bringing my patient upstairs. His presence both confused and intrigued me; so my first instinct was to completely ignore Jonah as he helped settle my patient into his hospital bed (my reason for doing this was to confuse and intrigue him; but he probably thought I was just a snotty telemetry nurse wearing the purple scrubs).

When Estrella formerly introduced me to Jonah that night at Palamino's, I was able to place a name with his face. After getting to know him, I realized that Jonah was one of the kindest gentlemen I knew. The rest...is history!

How Jonah Proposed
It was June 30th, 2004. Jonah and I spent the morning surfing and later caught a movie (Spiderman 2). Jonah told asked if we could meet up with his friends at Indigo's restaurant that evening. After getting dressed, Jonah told me that plans have changed and that we would not meet with his friends that evening. We decided to go out to dinner alone instead. "What a way to end a nice day together", I thought.

We ended up going to Brew Moon restaurant that evening. It was then I noticed that Jonah was acting weird. He was pretty quiet during dinner and his forehead kept sweating. I thought his food gave him heartburn again. The weirdness continued throughout dessert and upon leaving Brew Moon.

While walking out of the restaurant, Jonah asked if he could see the ring I wore on my right hand (he bought me this ring when we first became a couple). I was curious if he was planning on buying me an engagement ring later (little did I know he had already bought it). Jonah carefully examined the ring, telling me how worn and dirty it was. I jokingly told him to buy me a new one. When we got into my car, Jonah slipped my ring back on my finger. I looked at my ring and noticed that the band was shinier and skinnier than my old ring. I turned my palm up to see the other side of the ring and found a big, beautiful diamond set between four little diamonds. My eyes became large and I broke out into a huge smile. Jonah also had this huge smile on his face. He asked me to be his wife.

My smile never faded that night as we drove home. I looked at Jonah and told him, "You did good, man! You did good!"
